  2. The "Black Holes, Quasars, and the Universe" cover it is brutal indeed, the 1958 Pittsburgh catalog hits like a brass quintet of knuckles too.

    Why do you think is likely Djuna Barnes designed her own cover? (besides the fantastic pseudonym)

    David, I know Barnes was a visual artist too, but don't know the story behind the cover. I should attempt a post on "covers designed by the author." (Normally publishers put up a fight over author-as-designer.)
