Endangered species?

This post now resides on my other site 50 Watts:

  1. Wonderful! I think The Odyssey and The Madness of War are my favourite covers here...

  2. The "Black Holes, Quasars, and the Universe" cover it is brutal indeed, the 1958 Pittsburgh catalog hits like a brass quintet of knuckles too.

Why do you think is likely Djuna Barnes designed her own cover? (besides the fantastic pseudonym)

  3. awesome,as usual;]
love the best back cover ever+quinou+black holes,moholy-nady did something similar with dolly sisters some decades ago;]

  4. Thanks for your comments.

billy, the moholy-nagy is wonderful, thank you.

David, I know Barnes was a visual artist too, but don't know the story behind the cover. I should attempt a post on "covers designed by the author." (Normally publishers put up a fight over author-as-designer.)

  5. Thanks for these wonderful findings.
The Japanese book is from 1964 and on Okinawa crafts. I just ordered my copy!
