We have captured a most rare specimen of an extinct insect which was extremely popular at the beginning of the century

  1. hmm, reading the SovLit description, I would have expected the pink faces to be the crowd at the zoo, waiting for the unveiling of the bedbug and his supersized, bourgeois doppleganger.

This is fantastic, though. must be reissued in English.

  2. Greg, you are indeed correct -- I took off that line. Thanks!

Now I recall that the bedbug in this book is realistic-looking, which is probably why it didn't make the cut!

I should have mentioned this book is about 150 pages, illustrated in color on almost every page. Quite a document.

  5. I just stumbled onto your blog by way of a few others (via The Haunted Lamp via The Great Within). It's made my day and I expect it will make my whole weekend.

Can you tell where you uncovered this 1974 edition of Klop? I'd really like to find one of my very own (being a big fan of his).

    Thanks for the blog.

  6. Jason, glad you found the blog. I luck into these Russian books -- because I don't know the language I can't easily search for them. Your best bet might be extensive googling of Kovenchuk (and maybe convert his name back to cyrillic) to see if any other copies pop up.
