  1. The inside front cover of cogs is just mesmerising. Those Soviet kids had spectacular reading matter...

  2. Maybe I already namechecked this guy but these remind me a lot of a Hungarian artist called Tamas Galambos - have a peek.

  3. This new collection keeps the promises of this wonderful earlier quote: "Mummy was a robot, daddy was a small nonstick kitchen utensil". :-)

  4. I enjoyed this post, and the other two you mention! Delightfully strange and imaginative. I missed out by not having books like this as a kid!

  5. Thanks for all your comments.

I have run out of robot-themed Soviet kids' books to feature, but I definitely expect to find more. I don't expect to find one that will top "Mummy was a robot."

Alex, I need some Galambos, thanks for the reminder. I would love to find a book with illustrations like this.

  9. Mikhail Romadin, the artist who illustrated the book is my neighbour. By the way he worked as art director in Solaris, genial movie by Tarkovski.
