Funny, I was looking at a later version of the Novak book myself this afternoon http://www.book.hipopotamstudio.pl/?p=1321 I love the look and sound of Tresky Plesky..
I grew up in the GDR with Werner Klemke's illustrations. I didn't know his name but I always recognized his style. He also made wonderful illustrations for Boccaccio's Decameron.
We had that same copy of Cvrcek a Mravenci when I was little! And for some reason my mother and I were talking about children's books and she mentioned her own fond memories of Ferda Mravencu. Awesome!
