  1. Bizar Entree and Villa Cascara are my favorites of the bunch-- so lurid, even campy. Love it!

  3. I wonder if Het teeken van den dood seems familiar because of Chuck Palahniuk's Haunted. It has a similar out-of-focus face with a sharp, handwritten title.

  4. I'm entranced by everything you do here. Have been following this blog for a while now with undiminished fascination.

If you don't mind, some minor corrections of your rendering of the Dutch:

    - De Jazzband van den Duivel ("the devil's jazzband")
    - De Burgemeester te Paard ("the mayor on horseback")

  5. Thank you for your nice comments.

Patrick, thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm dealing here with the "dangers" of running an image blog and following so many image blogs -- visual overload leading to a constant sense of deja vu. (This could also be insanity!)

Julia, I added those corrections, thank you very much.

  6. My favorite's got to be "Het teeken van den dood." Thanks for pulling this together - very inspiring.

  7. I absolutely love "Het teeken van den dood".

I wonder if the face is so familiar because it looks like Cesare from "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari":

  8. I love the dust wrapper for "The Devil's Jazzband". Not that all the others are not wonderful. One of the things I find interesting about "The Devil's Jazzband" is that it was published in 1941 after the Nazis had invaded Holland.

  9. I love them all but especially "In memoriam de Schaduw" with the spider tipping his hat!
