  2. In a few of these images I see a distant kinship with the work of Tatsuro Kiuchi -- in particular his illustrations for Hikaru Okuizumi's novel The New Journey to the Center of the Earth. I have a few examples at http://dreamersrise.blogspot.com/2009/07/tatsuro-kiuchi.html, but the whole set is at http://www.flickr.com/photos/tatsurokiuchi/sets/72157606267796976/show/with/2684987742/. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available as a bound book (it was originally serialized in a Japanese newspaper).

    All the best.

  3. Aragon included 1-2 of these ills in his collected essays book on collage.

  4. Thanks for all the comments.

Chris, I loved your posts of Kiuchi's work. I'm afraid to start collecting it -- 300 books!

Marc, I had no idea Aragon wrote a book on collage, which I will immediately buy. I meant to mention: yesterday browsing in the library I saw a few of Hoffmeister's caricatures of Philippe Soupault (in a French book called something like Journal of a Phantom). It seems he hung out with artists like Nezval in the 20s and so came to personally know the French surrealists.

  5. Hoffmeister was an excellent caricaturist and draftsman. But I think these illustrations doesn´t fit togethet with the text.
