  2. Holy crap: this and the previous (insect and spider-related) posts are just fantastic!

  3. Thank you both.

James, I've been slowly buying the books featured in these posts (I own the Raskin, hence the huge scan), and I can now attest that some of them are F*CKED UP. Look for a huge scan of the Delessert "Mouse" book -- an unbelievably freaky object that probably shouldn't exist.

I ordered a Steponavicius retrospective from Lithuania -- if it arrives (ordering process was scary) it should lead to a few killer posts.

  5. My god, I have to remember not to read more than one of your posts at a time! I'm overloading on images here, I can feel the neural pathways warp and twist.

  6. I hadn't realized that Ellen Raskin was an illustrator as well as an author. Her books--especially The Tattooed Potato and Other Clues--were among my favorites when I was a kid, read and re-read.

Looking at her illustrations in your post, I suspect that she must have drawn the cover art for the first edition of her 1971 novel The Mysterious Disappearance of Leon (I Mean Noel) that my local library held when I was a kid.
