I know your obsession is with writers "no one" reads, and this fits right in with that - but has there ever been an obscure overlooked writer that no one reads who has had a more profound effect on literature, art, the universe and everything than Heinrich von Kleist? If only On the Marionette Theatre survived, he would still be a great literary figure.
Neil, you just gave me the idea to try to put together some features on marionettes. I'm looking forward to re-reading Kleist's stories, this time in the new translation from Archipelago Books.

Will, if you haven't read it, you should look at A.S. Byatt's The Children's Book for fascinating stuff about marionettes, and Kleist.
