Very impressive. Maybe I am 'primed' for this style, having both Max Ernst collages and Dore's illustrations for La Fonataine in my library, but these are better than Dore's too-slick renditions.
Thanks for the kind comments and thank you, Will, for such a generous act. I know I speak for a lot of illustrators & designers when I say that Will's blog is one of the finest internet sources available to find inspiration (AKA blatantly pilfer) ideas from.
the idea of the book as an objet of art and thought, in a handy, inexpensive package, is one mankind's greatest achievments & Will really does dig up some of the coolest and most obscure examples imaginaeable.
I'll have to check out the DA Powell broadcast, the man is a national treasure. He needs to do something long, an American Aeniad, perhaps.
