  1. Hey WIll....I wonder if I can interest you in a whole box of hand-silkscreened commercial book-jacket designs from the 30s thru 50s.... they are in NEwton, MA... I'd like to hold on to some or frame them some day...but I'd also love to see them scanned, collected, otherwise preserved... if you want them... post your email address I guess or I will... sg

  4. Incredible stuff, as always! I especially love the Dumas and Simenon covers.

I'm so curious to know who did the Edgar Wallace cover illustrations!

-keep up the fantastic work, my friend.

  5. Another great selection. I can't pick a favourite, but I'll nominate Hadie Srdce (1961) for special mention. Thanks Will!

  6. Hello. I'm from the former Czechoslovakia (a Czech) - so this is wonderful to see! Thank you. Having opened the blog post, I was nicely "shocked" to see the Fuentes book - it's on top of a pile of Spanish-language authors when I enter the living room. The cover author is Jaroslav Šváb. As for Richard Gordon, the author of the pictures is a very famous Czech artist named Adolf Born.

  8. I'm pretty sure the illustrator of that Richard Gordon cover is Adolf Born, who is great. Sort of a Czech Edward Gorey, though I think he dates further back (and he's still active), and more sexual in his humor.

  9. Thanks for the kind comments and i.d. help. I notice Adolf Born's name a lot on my searches and will definitely dig further. Googling Jaroslav Šváb right now!
