Brilliant stuff and great hunting. Reminds me of some of the Polish posters for American movies like the Western "Shane." Seems to be a naturally iconographic tradition.
I somehow didn't notice that the last image is of Pendragon Legend by the Hungarian Antal Szerb. I read that book! (Loved it, though it seems to really divide readers, and you should probably start with Journey By Moonlight anyway.)
