  5. Awhile back I found a great trove of Polish poster design on Artstor; I hadn't known it was so famous, but it's rightly so. I think Czech and Polish graphic design of the 70s is quite astounding, but I don't actually know that much about it (being so wrapped up in the pre-1940s).

  9. Hey Will,

Do you have dates for any of these? That would help with assigning designers. I've got some resources I can send your way that might help too.

  10. and fwiw, I know Iskry is a publisher, not a designer. Cieslewicz did some work for them earlier in his career.

  11. Derrick, I just briefly tried again to find dates, and it's hard. There were reprints of some of theses which used the same covers, which makes it that much harder to get the real dates. I'll keep trying! Thanks for your help.

  13. Trudny Powrót (Difficult Homecoming?) must be about the 1944 Warsaw Uprising - the Polish Armia Krajowa flag reflected in the colors of the roof, the supply canister being dropped. Very cool and striking.

  20. Hello! A very interesting post. Here's an idea: this the catalog of the National Library of Poland:

    http://alpha.bn.org.pl/search

And here, as an example, is the catalog record (search result) for one of the books shown, "Zemsta szafy":

    http://alpha.bn.org.pl/search~S4/?searchtype=t&searcharg=Zemsta+szafy

It does say "Il. Daniel Mróz" ("Il." = "ilustracje", graphics credit), which I know to be correct from other sources.

There are a few gotchas: not every book might be in the catalog, also not every book might have the graphics credit listed, also sometimes the author of the art inside the book and the designer of the cover might be two different persons. But it gives you a place to start.
